Dentist

Location: 355 Medical Group Davis-Monthan Tucson, AZ

Work Schedule: The performance hours of the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) are as follows:
Contractor employee(s) duty hours will be based on MTF and Air Force mission requirements. Contractor employee(s) shall perform services in nine (9) hour shifts, which include a one (1) hour unpaid meal break, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Squadron Commanders, or designated representatives, reserve the right to adjust contractor employee(s) duty hours as needed to meet mission requirements. Contractor employee(s) duty hours shall not exceed 40 hours per week. If a contractor employee is in the middle of patient care at the end of their duty day, the employee shall continue to perform services on that patient until patient care is completed, at no additional cost to the Government.

*Minimum Qualifications:

  • Shall hold a doctor of dental surgery or a doctor of dental medicine degree from an American Dental Association accredited college or

  • Shall have and maintain an active, valid unrestricted, current dental license (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) in a US jurisdiction. License must correspond to DEA registration number.

  • Possess a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number in order to write prescriptions for controlled substances.

  • Must have completion of an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program or equivalent acceptable to the Surgeon General, HQ USAF.

  • Shall have one (1) year of experience following performing clinical dentistry out of the last 18 months.

Core Duties:
- Conduct patient examination and diagnosis of diseases, abnormalities, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and associated structures. Prescribe and interpret radiographs and diagnostic tests as indicated for diagnosis.
Refer patients to specialists as indicated.
- Perform patient education to include tobacco cessation, oral hygiene instructions, dietary counseling and other preventive counseling.
- Review patient health history and refer for medical evaluation as indicated.
- Utilize the corporate Dental Application or other system as directed to record patient treatment encounters including treatment narrative and Current Dental Terminology (CDT) codes.
- Perform all duties to include care of patients and documentation of care in compliance with the Clinical Practice Guidelines, Dental Management Guide, Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Health Service Inspection (HSI), and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
- Peer review. Participate in monthly professional peer review process to include completing a review of a representative sample of a peer's dental records.
- Respond to medical emergencies.
