About the Organization

Our nonprofit organization is dedicated to improving access to quality dental care for children in underserved communities. Through our innovative mobile dental program, we bring dental services directly to elementary-aged students, helping remove barriers to care and establishing healthy oral hygiene habits early in life.

By delivering dental treatment in a familiar, school-based setting, we help children receive the care they need to maintain healthy smiles, build confidence, and develop positive relationships with dental care.

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and patient-focused Dental Assistant to join our mobile dental team in Austin, Texas. In this role, you will work alongside dental providers to deliver quality dental care to elementary-aged children in a mobile dental clinic.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, thrives in a team-oriented environment, and is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the community. This position offers the opportunity to combine your clinical skills with a mission-driven approach to pediatric oral health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist dentists and other clinical providers during dental examinations, preventive services, and restorative procedures.

  • Prepare treatment areas, sterilize instruments, and maintain a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment in accordance with infection control standards.

  • Welcome and support young patients, helping them feel comfortable and at ease throughout their dental visits.

  • Prepare dental instruments, materials, and equipment for procedures and ensure supplies are readily available.

  • Assist with patient intake, medical history reviews, charting, and accurate documentation of dental services.

  • Support the delivery of preventive oral health education to children and, when appropriate, their families.

  • Help coordinate daily mobile clinic operations, including preparing the vehicle, organizing supplies, and maintaining equipment.

  • Assist with the setup, breakdown, and organization of the mobile dental clinic at participating school locations.

  • Collaborate with school personnel, dental providers, and other team members to facilitate an efficient and positive patient experience.

  • Follow applicable OSHA, HIPAA, infection prevention, and patient safety requirements.

  • Perform other duties as needed to support the organization's mission and daily clinical operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Dental assisting experience preferred; pediatric dental experience is a plus.

  • Current Texas dental assistant registration or other applicable credentials, as required for assigned duties.

  • Knowledge of dental instruments, procedures, sterilization protocols, and infection control practices.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, families, and colleagues.

  • A patient, compassionate, and approachable demeanor, particularly when working with young or anxious patients.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including accurate documentation and inventory management.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, community-based clinical environment.

  • Willingness and ability to travel with the mobile dental team to school locations throughout the Austin area.

  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, including standing for extended periods and lifting or moving clinical supplies as needed.

Why Join Our Team?

  • Make a meaningful impact: Help elementary-aged children access essential dental care who might otherwise go without treatment.

  • Unique clinical environment: Deliver care through an innovative mobile dental program that brings services directly to local schools.

  • Mission-driven work: Join a nonprofit organization committed to improving oral health and reducing barriers to care.

  • Collaborative team: Work alongside dental professionals and community partners who share a commitment to children's health and well-being.

  • Build your experience: Develop your clinical skills while gaining valuable experience in pediatric and community-based dentistry.
