Job Description
Overview
Under direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher medical professional, the Dental Hygienist promotes dental health by completing dental therapy; performing procedures in compliance with the dental practice act.
Qualifications
Education:
• Graduate from an accredited Dental Hygienist school
Experience:
• Two (2) years’ experience
• Previous correctional/detention facility experience
• Five (5) years’ experience
Licenses/Certifications
• Unrestricted current Dental Hygiene license, certification or registration in state of practice - must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
• Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
• Current (and must maintain) lifesaving ACLS certification through AHA
Responsibilities
- Prepares treatment room for persons served by adhering to prescribed procedures and protocols
- Provides information to persons served and employees by answering questions
- Maintains instrumentation for dental hygiene treatment by sharpening, sterilizing instruments
- Selects materials and equipment for dental hygiene visit by evaluating persons served oral health
- Educates patients by giving oral hygiene and plaque control instructions and postoperative instructions
