Job Description

Overview

Under direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher medical professional, the Dental Hygienist promotes dental health by completing dental therapy; performing procedures in compliance with the dental practice act.

Qualifications

Education:

• Graduate from an accredited Dental Hygienist school

Experience:

• Two (2) years’ experience
• Previous correctional/detention facility experience
• Five (5) years’ experience

Licenses/Certifications

• Unrestricted current Dental Hygiene license, certification or registration in state of practice - must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
• Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
• Current (and must maintain) lifesaving ACLS certification through AHA

Responsibilities

  1. Prepares treatment room for persons served by adhering to prescribed procedures and protocols
  2. Provides information to persons served and employees by answering questions
  3. Maintains instrumentation for dental hygiene treatment by sharpening, sterilizing instruments
  4. Selects materials and equipment for dental hygiene visit by evaluating persons served oral health
  5. Educates patients by giving oral hygiene and plaque control instructions and postoperative instructions
