Job Description

We are seeking a Pediatric Dentist for an 80-day locum tenens assignment in Alabama, beginning Oct 6, 2025, with day shifts Monday through Friday. This role focuses on providing comprehensive dental care to patients ages 0 to 21, including exams, preventive treatments, restorative procedures, and patient education. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team and utilize Athenahealth EMR.

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide comprehensive dental exams and assess growth, development, and oral health status
  • Diagnose and treat dental caries, infections, and oral injuries
  • Perform preventive treatments such as cleanings, fluoride applications, and sealants
  • Complete restorative procedures, including composite fillings and stainless-steel crowns
  • Extract primary and permanent teeth when indicated
  • Manage pediatric dental emergencies, including trauma and abscesses
  • Administer nitrous oxide sedation or minimal sedation when appropriate
  • Fit and maintain space maintainers to preserve proper tooth alignment
  • Educate children and parents on oral hygiene and preventive care
  • Collaborate with hygienists, assistants, and care teams for treatment planning and case coordination
  • Maintain accurate documentation in EMR and comply with clinic and regulatory standards
  • Refer complex or specialized cases to orthodontists, oral surgeons, or pediatric specialists as needed


Additional Information

  • Must be licensed to practice dentistry in Alabama
  • Experience with pediatric patients from infancy through young adulthood preferred
  • Familiarity with Athenahealth EMR is required
  • Strong communication skills and commitment to patient-centered care
