Job Description

Position Summary

The General Dentist provides comprehensive dental care to adult and pediatric patients in a community health center setting. This position requires a minimum of two years of clinical experience and the ability to practice independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate is clinically confident, mission-driven, and comfortable managing a full patient schedule while supporting the goals of a safety-net dental program.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Perform comprehensive dental examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planning

  • Deliver a full scope of general dentistry services, including:

    • Preventive care (exams, fluoride, sealants)

    • Restorative dentistry (fillings, crowns)

    • Simple and surgical extractions

    • Endodontic and limited prosthodontic procedures, as appropriate

  • Manage dental emergencies and urgent care visits independently

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based care in accordance with FQHC and regulatory standards

Independent Practice Expectations

  • Manage patient care and clinical decision-making with minimal supervision

  • Maintain productivity and quality standards in a fast-paced community health setting

  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to dental assistants and hygienists as appropriate

Patient Education & Engagement

  • Educate patients on oral health, treatment options, and preventive care

  • Deliver care in a compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive manner

  • Foster patient trust and long-term engagement in oral healthcare

Documentation, Compliance & Quality

  • Complete timely and accurate documentation in the electronic dental record (EDR)

  • Comply with HRSA, OSHA, CDC, and Connecticut Dental Practice Act requirements

  • Follow infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, chart reviews, and peer review activities

Required Qualifications

  • DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in general dentistry

  • Current or eligible Connecticut dental license

  • DEA registration (or eligibility)

  • CPR/BLS certification

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a clinical setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an FQHC, community health center, or public health setting

  • Experience treating Medicaid and uninsured populations

  • Familiarity with electronic dental records

  • Bilingual skills (Spanish preferred)
