Job Description

Position Summary

The General Dentist provides comprehensive oral healthcare services to adult and pediatric patients in a community health center setting. This role supports the mission of the FQHC by delivering high-quality, evidence-based dental care while working collaboratively within an integrated care model to improve overall health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Perform comprehensive dental examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planning

  • Provide a full scope of general dentistry services, including:

    • Preventive care (exams, cleanings, fluoride, sealants)

    • Restorative dentistry (fillings, crowns)

    • Simple and surgical extractions

    • Endodontic and limited prosthodontic procedures, as appropriate

  • Manage dental emergencies and urgent care visits

  • Deliver care in accordance with evidence-based clinical standards and FQHC guidelines

Patient Education & Engagement

  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, disease prevention, and treatment options

  • Promote patient understanding, adherence, and long-term oral health

  • Provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive care

Collaboration & Program Support

  • Work collaboratively with dental hygienists, dental assistants, and administrative staff

  • Participate in integrated care efforts with medical and behavioral health teams

  • Support community outreach, prevention programs, and health education initiatives as assigned

Documentation, Compliance & Quality

  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the electronic dental record (EDR)

  • Comply with HRSA, OSHA, CDC, and applicable state dental practice regulations

  • Adhere to infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and performance improvement activities

Required Qualifications

  • DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school

  • Current or eligible dental license in the state of practice

  • DEA registration (or eligibility)

  • CPR/BLS certification

  • Commitment to serving underserved and diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an FQHC, community health center, or public health setting

  • Experience treating Medicaid and uninsured populations

  • Familiarity with electronic dental records

  • Bilingual skills preferred
