I am writing to share a professional opportunity for a Locum Dentist (DDS/DMD) with the Connecticut Department of Correction – Dentistry Department, located in Connecticut.

Position Overview

The selected Dentist will provide comprehensive dental care to the incarcerated offender population, including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and patient education related to oral health conditions. This role is governed by state regulations and professional standards of dental practice.

Assignment Details

• Type: Locum (1099)
• Start Date: ASAP upon completion of credentialing
• Duration: 13 weeks, ongoing
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week
  • Hours: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Alternative Option: Four 10-hour shifts
• On-Call: None
• Patient Volume: Approximately 4–10 patients per day
• Location: CT

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct oral examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planning
• Provide preventive and acute dental care, including operative and prosthetic dentistry, exodontia, periodontia, radiology, and prophylaxis
• Respond to dental emergencies
• Prescribe and administer medications as appropriate
• Request and interpret laboratory tests and X-rays
• Consult with physicians regarding dental conditions impacting overall health
• Educate patients and staff on oral hygiene and available dental services
• Participate in training of dental residents or dental assistant students as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)
• Active Connecticut dental license in good standing
• Board Certified
• DEA registration
• Current BLS / CPR certification
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a practicing Dentist
• Compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements, including health screenings and documentation
