We operate 3 health centers, a School-Based Health Center as well as a Mobile Unit.

About the POSITION

Looking for a Dental Director

  • GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Dental Director organizes and directs the activities related to the delivery of dental care to health center patients while assuring the quality and effectiveness of patient care at the Health Center. The Dental Director is a member of the clinical staff and engages in the part-time delivery of dental care. The Dental Director works closely with the Senior Staff and as such participates in all aspects of health center operations including but not limited to strategic planning, performance improvement activities and budgeting.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership Role

Assist with recruitment, training and evaluation of dental department staff.

Reviews job performance of dentists and other direct reports ensuring job specific and age specific competencies

Performs periodic evaluations of all dentist and hygienists.

Supervises, advises, counsels and disciplines all dentists and hygienists and approves leave status for dentists and hygienists.

Assists in the preparation of an operating budget for the dental department in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer. In addition, the Dental Director shall participate in the preparation of special grant and project budgets as required to meet the goals of the organization.

Monitors revenues and reports on the productivity of the dental department recommending and implementing strategies and changes to enhance the dental program.

Responds to patient complaints and mediates disputes.

Leads organization’s efforts with the implementation of electronic dental records.

Assists with organizational efforts to provide a seamless integration of medical, dental and behavioral health services to patient population consistent with the principles of the Patient Centered Medical Home.

Acts as the liaison with Dental Residency Programs and functions as the preceptor for dental residents.

Provides clinical oversight to school-based dental programs.

Participates in the preparation of grant applications for the corporation and assumes primary responsibility for developing and implementing the organization’s dental health care plan as required by HRSA’s Bureau of Primary Health Care.

Functions as the clinical liaison with dental benefits managers in efforts to credential dental staff with health plans and negotiate reimbursement rates.

Designs, develops, and implements appropriate dental department policies, protocols and procedures which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards.

Provides consultation to the Senior Staff and the Board of Directors regarding dental and oral health issues.

Serves as leader of the dental department’s Quality Improvement Team and assists with peer review process.

Active participation in Infection Control and other health center committee activities as assigned.

Evaluates quality standards and clinical protocols through chart review and case conference.

Provides clinical education to providers and staff.

Acts as liaison with consultants, professional associations and groups, and governmental agencies.

Staff Dentist/Clinical Duties

Provides and manages direct patient care, including intra and extra oral examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment.

Provides excellent internal/external customer service via telephone or face-to-face contact to assist patients with their health care needs.

Adheres to performance improvement objectives, safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
